Privacy policy
This policy explains how LifeSurfer Designs handles information when you use My Climbing Guide.
Information we handle
- Account information: email address, authentication records, username, display name, profile details, and avatar.
- Climbing and social content: route ratings, saved or completed route state, posts, route beta, comments, reactions, photos, reports, friend relationships, blocks, direct messages, mentions, and shares.
- Location: device location is used to show your position, determine whether route-finding controls are available, and center the map. Exact coordinates are stored and shared with selected recipients only when you intentionally create a shared map pin. A profile location is optional free-form text, not a live location.
- Device and service data: push-notification tokens, basic request and security logs, and technical data needed to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
- Support and safety information: messages you send to support and details included in content reports or moderation reviews.
How we use information
- Provide maps, route information, account sync, profiles, community features, messages, notifications, and shared pins.
- Store and display content to the audience you chose or the feature requires, such as a public feed, a route page, friends, or direct-message recipients.
- Detect abuse, evaluate reported or potentially unsafe content, enforce our terms and standards, and protect users and the service.
- Respond to support, account, privacy, and deletion requests.
- Maintain reliability, prevent fraud, and diagnose failures.
Automated safety review
Text content may be checked by automated moderation systems for serious safety concerns such as threats, sexual exploitation, harassment, hate, self-harm, scams, or exposure of private information. Automated signals may flag or temporarily limit content for review. Users can also report content, and authorized administrators can review and act on reports.
Service providers
We use service providers only as needed to operate the app:
- Supabase for authentication, database, file storage, realtime updates, and server functions.
- Mapbox for maps and map rendering.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications.
- OpenAI for automated safety moderation of submitted text.
- Resend for moderation-report email delivery.
- Vercel for this website and account-confirmation pages.
These providers may process network, device, request, or content data as needed to deliver their services under their own terms and privacy practices. We do not sell personal information or use the app to serve targeted advertising.
Visibility and sharing
Profile information and public community content can be visible to other users. Direct messages, friend requests, and shared pins are limited to their intended participants. A recipient can still see or retain information you intentionally sent to them while it is available in the service. Do not share a location or personal information you do not want the selected recipients to receive.
Retention and deletion
We keep account and content data while your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Expiring shared pins are removed from active map use according to their selected expiration. When you delete your account, we delete your account record and associated profile, posts, comments, messages, route ratings, saved route state, uploaded account media, and active shared pins. We may retain limited de-identified safety reports, deletion audit records, security logs, or records required to prevent abuse or comply with law. Retained records are not used to recreate your profile.
You can export your account data and initiate deletion in the app under Profile > Account and data. You can also use our account deletion page.
Your choices
- Use core route-guide features without creating a social account.
- Deny or revoke location and notification permissions in device settings.
- Edit profile information, update or remove your route rating, delete supported content, hide shared pins, block users, or report content.
- Export your account data or permanently delete your account.
Children
My Climbing Guide is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information.
Security
We use access controls, authenticated requests, row-level database policies, encrypted transport, and restricted administrative operations. No system can guarantee absolute security, so use a unique password and protect access to your email and device.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app changes. The effective date above will identify the current version. Material changes may also be announced in the app or by another appropriate method.
